Delhi Liquor Booking Rules: Age Limit, Quantities and the 48-Hour Pickup

Most questions about the Delhi Liquor Booking app are really questions about the rules. Who can buy? How much? How fast do you have to collect? This page answers each one with the exact numbers, so you can book without guessing. For the booking flow itself, see our step-by-step booking guide.

Rule 1: You must be 25 or older

Delhi's legal drinking age is 25, one of the strictest in India. The app follows it from the first screen. Sign-up starts with a statutory warning that you have to agree to before you even enter your mobile number. If you are under 25, the app is not for you, and neither is buying at a government vend in Delhi. There is no guest mode or workaround, and staff at the store can refuse a handover that does not look right.

Rule 2: Quantity limits per person

You can buy up to 9 litres of whisky and 18 litres of beer per person. Those are the caps to plan around. Buying for a gathering? The limits apply per person, so a group order needs the group, not one person trying to load everything onto a single booking. Plan sizes and quantities inside the app before you pay, and remember the stock you see is per store. A big order at a small outlet may hit stock limits before it hits legal ones.

Rule 3: Collect within 48 hours

Payment starts a clock. You have 48 hours to visit the store you picked, show your QR code, and collect. The window is firm because the store is holding paid stock for you. Book when your next two days are clear. Booking on Friday night for a store across the city, with a packed weekend ahead, is how orders lapse.

There is no delivery option to fall back on. Collection is in person, at your chosen store only. Our page on home delivery and store coverage explains why the system works that way.

Rule 4: You can cancel before collection

Plans change. If they change before you collect, you can cancel the booking. Picked the wrong store? Something came up and the 48 hours will not work? Cancel and rebook cleanly instead of rushing across Delhi or letting the order sit. Cancelling early also frees the stock for someone else.

Rule 5: No returns after collection

Once staff scan your QR code and you take the order, that is final. Returns are not accepted after collection. So do your checking at the counter. Right brand? Right size? Bottles sealed and undamaged? Ten seconds at the counter is your only inspection window, so use it. If something in the order is wrong, raise it before you walk away, while the staff can still see the scan and the stock.

How this plays out at the store

Picture the pickup. You arrive inside your 48-hour window and show the QR code. Staff scan it and see the exact order: brands, sizes, quantities, all paid. There is no fresh billing, no price discussion, and no upselling at the counter. If your order sits within the limits and the code scans, the handover takes a minute. Most friction people report comes from the booking side, not the store side: a store picked in a hurry, a window left too late, a quantity planned without the limits in mind. The rules above are the whole game. Play inside them and the store visit is the easy part.

Why rules this strict?

They mirror how government liquor sales already work in Delhi. Age and quantity rules are excise rules, not app inventions. The app adds its own layer on top: prepayment, a QR code, and a pickup window so stores are not holding unpaid reservations all week. Officials said the goals were shorter queues, calmer billing counters, transparent pricing, and less brand pushing at the counter. The rules keep that system tidy.
